This Wednesday on January 15 the Udmurt State University was receiving the delegation of the Culture and Education Bureau of the Iraqi Embassy in the Russian Federation. The honored guests were Dr. Abud Khabib Mtashar, the Culture and Education Attaché, and Alkhaidari Bassim, the Attaché Assistant. The visitors met the Rector, Prof. Galina Merzlyakova, and some of the Vice-Rectors.
In course of the Rector reception Iraqi delegation was presented with UdSU extensive experience of receiving students from Iraq. Thus, since 2007 when the first Iraqi students chose UdSU as their study destination, 50 of them have successfully completed their programs and were issued Diplomas. Currently, 196 Iraqi students are studying at our university doing all types programs: from pre-university courses to post-graduate research. Oil and Gas Engineering major is on the highest demand among them.
Furthermore, the perspectives of broadening the scope of cooperation were discussed. Prof. Merzlyakova suggested that besides Oil and Gas Engineering UdSU could train specialists in other areas such as Physics, Mathematics, Economics. The Iraqi guests, in their turn, emphasized their interest in UdSU as the target place of study for students from their country. The Attaché Assistant voiced the delegation’s confidence in the high teaching standards adopted at our university and capacity to train world-class specialists.
After meeting the Rector the delegation visited the research laboratories of several UdSU institutes.
The visit of the honored guests has already yielded a tangible result - signing of the Cooperation Agreement. Some of the clauses included in the Agreement discuss further development of study opportunities at UdSU for Iraqi students, cooperation with Iraqi higher educational institutions, promotion of academic mobility, engagement in joint research, conferences and seminars, exchange of research and study materials, etc.
